Governor's School Ambassador Programdrive success

Alumni understand that the Governor’s School experience gets into your head (and your heart) and sets up camp, usually for life. Alumni of all generations embrace its ideals and carry them forward making contributions of great impact, all over North Carolina and far beyond. Many alumni describe Governor’s School as the most important educational experience of their life, and they’re are eager to contribute their time, talents, and financial resources to help pass that life-changing experience on to future generations. The new Governor’s School Ambassador program is a way to do just that. Being an Ambassador is a way to recognize and celebrate the loyal devotion of alumni and friends to the future of the Governor’s School, while also offering an avenue to engage and support Governor’s School’s future. We invite anyone with a sustained interest in the program to sign up and identify as an Ambassador.

Volunteer as little or as much time as you have! The Governor’s School Foundation is entirely volunteer-led, so we’re always thrilled when friends of the Governor’s School want to contribute their time and talents. In particular, the Foundation is looking for individuals to serve as ‘class captains’ who will coordinate regional activities, and we also have specialized opportunities for Ambassadors with skills in graphic design, web design, videography, and fundraising. If you’re not sure you can commit to a specific ongoing opportunity right now, please go ahead and sign up. We frequently have short-term opportunities to help (e.g., writing letters to key decision makers, staffing or attending events, etc.) and we’d love to know that you’re willing and able to consider ad hoc projects as they arise.

Investdrive success

Invest through regular contributions, planned giving, or personal fundraising efforts. Your contributions fund the scholarships that make Governor’s School accessible to all admitted students, regardless of their ability to pay tuition. Your investments also support special programming that elevates the experience for every participant. Please make an annual gift of money or securities and consider the Foundation in your planned giving decisions (see Tax Benefits from Other Types of Gifts). You can also multiply your impact by hosting your own fundraising activities in support of the Foundation. We would love to help you bring your creative fundraising ideas to fruition, so please reach out to us.

Amplify social media and advocacy efforts. Follow the North Carolina Governor’s School Foundation and become a part of the Governor’s School of North Carolina Alumni group on Facebook. You can also connect with us on Twitter at @ncgsfoundation. Amplifying our individual voices by working together is critical to the ongoing vibrancy of the Governor’s School. In the past, when you’ve spoken, our legislators have listened! In both 2012 and 2017, following periods of deep crisis for our state budget, your personal stories influenced the NC legislature and helped preserve Governor’s School. As needs arise, we need Ambassadors to be ready to support future growth efforts through activities like legislator outreach and letters to the editor.
