Representative Pat Hurley Awarded Prestigious Legislative Champion Award
This week, the North Carolina Governor’s School Foundation awarded Rep. Pat Hurley the Legislative Champion Award for her leadership in Raleigh to increase funding for the North Carolina Governor’s School, a summer excellence program for bright young minds across the state. Even in the midst of a historic budget stanoff in Raleigh, Rep. Hurley took the lead in reaching bipartisan agreement for the funding increase and helped ensure that North Carolina students from every community and background have access to the opportunity of Governor’s School.

Hurley’s leadership has proven invaluable in the effort to ensure that Governor’s School receives full funding for the next fiscal year,” said Lee Conner, President of the NC Governor’s School Foundation. “ By securing this crucial funding, Rep. Hurley has continued a long tradition of investing in the future of North Carolina students by supporting Governor’s School. On behalf of the thousands of North Carolinians whose lives have been changed by Governor’s School, we thank Rep. Hurley for her leadership.”
The Governor’s School of North Carolina is a five and one-half week summer residential program for intellectually gifted high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. Every year, young minds from every county, community, and background are invited to apply for Governor’s School and join 500 fellow North Carolinians at the nation’s oldest statewide summer residential program for academically gifted students.

The North Carolina Legislature has voted on a final budget for the fiscal year of 2019-2020, once the budget is signed into law, the funding for Governor’s School will be official.
